Resume/Bio:
Karin A. Costa began her career in antiques and collectibles in the 1980's with her own antiques brokerage company in suburban Chicago. She quickly became the "go-to" valuer for family estates eventually opening an estate sale business.
A graduate of the Missouri Auction School and its Certified Appraisers Guild of America, Karin has been an auctioneer and appraiser for prominent western Washington, northern California and Nevada estates and special collections, including antiques, fine art, coins, jewelry, workshop, farm and commercial assets for over 25 years.
Karin is a generalist appraiser holding the Master Personal Property Appraiser designation from the NAA, Registered Gemologist Appraiser designation from the International School of Gemology, AIA-PACC credential from the Asheford Institute of Antiques, and Certified Appraiser designation from the Certified Appraisers Guild of America. She successfully completed the Certified Machinery and Equipment Appraiser credential from the NEBB Institute.
Karin focuses in the field of estate and family law. She is a qualified appraiser for IRS estate, gift and charitable contribution appraisals. She also prepares USPAP compliant appraisals for divorce, family and partnership equitable division, and guardianship and probate inventories. She works with collectors of fine and decorative art, antique furniture and jewelry as a collection manager preparing and organizing collection databases.
In addition, Karin is an appraisal report reviewer helping clients in litigation, mediation and other disputes establish the accuracy, consistency and logic of another appraiser's appraisal or appraisal review, with or without a value conclusion.
She loves the hunt for treasures and enjoys sharing with clients the history and market insights of hidden "gems". A consummate student, Karin includes ongoing study in the fields of antiques, fine art, jewelry and machinery (the hard and soft assets classes) and engages with specialists when necessary to discuss an asset and its market.
